New York ex-governor Andrew Cuomo who is running for Mayor was in Queens on Friday September 3, 2025, where he met in a mosque with South Asian Muslim community. Some leaders of that community who previously endorsed Zohran Mandani withdrew their support.
“I was a big support of Mandani,” said Fahad Solaiman a prominent Bangladeshi business leader in Queens. “In front of everyone I withdrew my support, we want an experience mayor in New York.”
Solaiman’s withdrawal came as Mandani who is also a Muslim, co – sponsored a bill in the state Assembly to “decriminalize” prostitution between consenting adults.
“Prostitution is haram,” said Solaiman. “We don’t support prostitution, not only Muslim people, but the whole South Asian Community don’t support prostitution.”
For Cuomo “prostitution is a big issue here in Roosvelt Avenue.”
