The African Advisory Council (AAC) in partnership with the office of the Bronx Borough president has organized on September 14, 2024, in the Bronx the African Heritage Festival.
The African community from all over the New York City has come together to celebrate their heritage festival. Several elected officials were also there to support the community.
“This festival reminds us of our root and connection to our homeland,” said Ambroise Ngande the African advisory council community chair.
As he called for unity, he regretted the fact that the community “has not any legislator yet.”
Talking about unity, Sidiki Donzo the chairman of AAC stated that it is “only together we can do better.”
Same message for David Coulibaly the director of community affairs and disability service facilitator of the office of the Bronx borough president, who put it in this way: “As Africans, if we are not united, we are going to be divided; politicians are going to use us and against each other.”
The Bronx borough president Vanessa L. Gibson emphasized: “Every year we always come together to recognize we are beautiful, mosaic and different cultures, nationalities, and we are all one; we are one Africa, we are one Bronx.” She added: “We all represent African diaspora, yes African Americans represent African diaspora…”
The consul general of the kingdom of Morocco in New York Abdel Kader Jamoussi who represented the African consul group in New York, has specified that the “African heritage festival is to showcase Africa, its richness, diversity, and heritage.”
Several other people including elected officials and former chairmen of AAC have spoken to support the African community and to call for unity. Many African community leaders were honored as they received citation from the Bronx borough president.
